Into New Hands

Individuals who need home medical equipment and who have limited insurance coverage and/or financial resources are able to obtain the necessary devices through a RECYCLING program called “Into New Hands”.

Into New Hands was started by several Pittsburgh area social service agencies and health care institutions. Our goal is to recycle equipment from those who have it and no longer need it to those who need it and do not have it.

Since its beginning, this program has distributed equipment to an average of three hundred (300) individuals per year valued at $70,000 per year.

Those individuals who donate equipment to our system receive a receipt for a tax deductible charitable donation for the value of the items donated.

Types of equipment distributed through our system include (but are not limited to):

  • Walkers
  • Reachers
  • Elevated Toilet Seats
  • Hospital Beds
  • Wheelchairs (Manual or Power)
  • Over-the-bed Tables
  • Tub Rails
  • Grab Bars
  • Hoyer Lifts
  • Bedside Commodes
  • Communication Devices

The Into New Hands Program also maintains a 911 Emergency Cellular Telephone Distribution Program.

ELIGIBILITY:

Individuals who do not have insurance coverage for devices are eligible to receive pre-owned equipment. For those under age 18, specific items may not be furnished unless a written prescription is furnished (i.e. a wheelchair which requires specific adaptations).

If specific types of equipment are provided, the person under 18 must be assessed by a qualified therapist.

All requests are considered on an individual basis.

All items are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Distributions from the 911 Emergency Cellular Telephone Program is by appointment only, Monday through Friday 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM.
